Felicia
Warburg Rogan founded Oakencroft
Vineyard and Winery Corporation in
1983. Oakencroft is the oldest winery
in Albemarle County and 2008 marks our
25th year of award winning wines. Felicia
Warburg Rogan has been a tireless
promoter of Virginia wines for over
two decades. Former Governor Charles
S. Robb appointed her and members
of the then newly formed Virginia
Wine Grape Growers Advisory Board
in 1985. She was unanimously
elected the first Chairman. In
1995, she received the highest
industry award for “Outstanding
Achievement for Support of
The Wine Industry” from
The Commonwealth of Virginia.
Felicia helped found The Jeffersonian Wine
Grape Growers Society to encourage quality
winegrowing in Central Virginia and was chairman
for 26 years.
This group is responsible for establishing
the Monticello Viticultural Area, The Annual
Monticello October Wine Festival and, more
recently, the Monticello Wine Trail website
and brochures to promote the wineries
in Central Virginia.
Former Governor Gerald Baliles, whom she
accompanied to Taiwan on a Trade Mission
in 1988, hailed Felicia as “Virginia’s
First Lady of Wine”. She has
also been recognized by The Charlottesville
Albemarle Chamber of Commerce as “Small
Business Person of the Year” in
2000 for her leadership in the community
and for Oakencroft’s role
as an important attraction in Charlottesville.
In 2005, The Charlottesville-Albemarle
Convention and Visitor's Bureau presented
Felicia with their "Annual Tourism
Appreciation Award" for her passionate
leadership in promoting Virginia's Wine
Industry.
When you come to Oakencroft,you
will find one of the most beautiful farm wineries
in the state with vistas of the Blue Ridge Mountains
stretching beyond the vineyards and the lake below
with Virginia water fowl fronting the winery. Quality
wines are produced by Stephen Heyns, the winemaker,
to suit every palate and the vines are carefully
tended by Philip Ponton. There are wine related
gifts for sale in the antique filled Tasting Room
and wine tastings of the medal winning wines. Oakencroft
offers their winery courtyard for private or corporate
parties and events. They are also very popular
for bridal parties and receptions. Oakencroft is
the closest winery to Charlottesville and The University
of Virginia.
